Colby Stephens is an artist, researcher, writer, and political activist based in Reno, NV. His art mediums are selected as a means to embodying the conceptual content of his work, which typically addresses politics, economics, and social justice.



Stephens' work seeks to synthesize his research, and similarly unpack it for the viewer. His work is very direct, and speaks strongly to social and political issues and problems through use of historical contexts, literary references, appropriation, myth, and allegory. However, his goal is not to tell people what to think, but rather to generate thoughtful conversations from myriad points of view. Further, he seeks to encourage and foster civic participation among his viewers while avoiding the pitfalls of the divisive politics so prevalent in today's political discourse.
